Akita vs Shiba Inu

When it comes to choosing a dog, there are many factors to consider.

Two popular breeds of dogs are the Akita and the Shiba Inu. While they may seem similar, there are some distinct differences between these two breeds.

In this article, we will discuss the key differences between the Akita and Shiba Inu.

We will help you decide which breed is right for you and your family.

While both Akita Inus and Shiba Inus are dog breeds that originate from Japan, and people are quick to point out the resemblance between them, there are significant distinctions between the two.

Akita Inu means “dog of Akita” in Japanese. Shiba Inu is a term used to describe a very tiny dog or a brushwood dog in Japanese.

The Shiba is smaller than the Akita. The Shiba was developed to hunt rabbits and rodents, while the Akita was developed to hunt larger animals such as boars, brown bears and elk.

Shiba Inus are also more popular as pets than the Akita, although the Akita is Japan’s national dog.

Akita Inu vs Shiba Inu: Size

The Akita is a large dog breed and can weigh up to 130 pounds. The Shiba Inu is much smaller and only weighs up to 30 pounds.

The Shiba stands only 13 to 17 inches at the shoulder, while the Akita can stand 24 to 28 inches tall.

This size difference is one of the most noticeable Akita vs Shiba Inu differences.

Akita Inu vs Shiba Inu: Temperament

The Akita is a calm, loyal, and courageous dog breed. They are very protective of their family and make great guard dogs.

The Shiba Inu is also a loyal dog, but they can be much more independent than the Akita. They are also known to be very active and playful.

Shibas are also known to be escape artists, so if you’re looking for a dog that will stay in your yard, the Akita may be a better choice.

Akita Inus and Shiba Inus are both loyal, protective dogs that make great family pets.

Shiba Inus are intelligent, obstinate, and unamenable to training. They’re not well-known for their trainability.

If you give them respect and offer them praise, Akita Inus are bright dogs that are considerably simpler to teach.

Akita Inu vs Shiba Inu: Coat Type

The Akita has a thick, double coat that is made up of a coarse outer coat and a soft, dense undercoat. The Shiba Inu also has a double-coat, but it is not as thick as the Akita’s.

The Shiba’s coat is more like fox fur and is made up of straight, stiff hairs. The Akita’s coat is more like a bear’s and is made up of wavy, thick hairs.

Akita Inu vs Shiba Inu: Colors

The Akita comes in a variety of colors, including white, brindle, and red. The Shiba Inu only comes in red, black and tan, or sesame (a mix of red and black).

Akita Inus can also have a pattern called “Urajiro” which means “reverse markings.” This is when the Akita has white markings on its cheeks, tail, and chest.

The Shiba Inu does not have this marking.

Akita Inu vs Shiba Inu: Price

The Akita is a more expensive breed than the Shiba Inu. Akitas can cost anywhere from $500 to $1500, while Shiba Inus only cost $300 to $700.

Akita Inu vs Shiba Inu: Health Problems

The Akita is prone to hip dysplasia, while the Shiba Inu is prone to allergies.

Both breeds are also susceptible to eye problems and intestinal issues.

You should also consult with a veterinarian to discuss the health concerns of each breed before making your final decision.

Akita Inu vs Shiba Inu: Life Expectancy

The Akita has a life expectancy of 10 to 13 years, while the Shiba Inu has a life expectancy of 12 to 16 years.

Commonly, smaller dog breeds have a longer life expectancy than larger dogs.

When it comes to choosing a dog, it is important to consider all of the factors that we have discussed.

Weighing the pros and cons of each breed will help you decide which dog is right for you and your family.

We hope that this article has helped you learn more about the differences between the Akita and Shiba Inu.
